Three more file to run for seat on NIC board

The Spokesman-Review

A Hagadone Corp. engineer, a marriage counselor and ordained minister who served a term in the state Legislature, and a Coeur d’Alene man who ran unsuccessfully for the North Idaho College Board of Trustees four years ago have filed to run for this year’s open trustee seat, currently held by board Vice Chairman Denny Hague.

Jim Coleman of the Hagadone Corp., marriage counselor Ron Vieselmeyer and Coeur d’Alene resident Bill Brooks filed their election bids Thursday. Hague is not seeking re-election.

Vieselmeyer said many people encouraged him to run, and he wants to improve the college’s relationship with the community. Brooks couldn’t be reached, and Coleman did not return phone calls seeking comment.

The three join Gonzaga faculty member and former NIC Dean of Instruction Dennis Conners and Hayden resident Stan Hess in seeking the seat.

The filing deadline is today at 5 p.m. Candidates must live in Kootenai County and be at least 18 years old.

Groundbreaking for Coeur d’Alene’s Kroc Center has been set for June 2007.

A tentative construction schedule was announced Thursday during the unveiling of a billboard at the site where the center is being built. The sign includes an artist’s rendering of the center.

Megan Beck, capital campaign manager for the center, said construction of the $65 million community center is expected to take 16 to 18 months and that the center should be open by the end of 2008. It is being built at the intersection of Ramsey and Golf Course roads.

Reward boosted for triathlon saboteurs

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce announced this week additional reward money for tips leading to the arrest of persons responsible for tacks strewn on the course of the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon.

The chamber, Ironwood Athletic Club and the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon Association have donated reward money. Secret Witness is also offering a reward for arrests related to the incident, which resulted in injuries to at least one athlete who was thrown over her handlebars when her bicycle tire punctured.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department has asked that the chamber not specify the amount of the reward.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at (208) 446-1300.
