NASCAR NEXTEL CUP

Sylvania 300

Site: Loudon, N.H. Schedule: Friday, qualifying (Speed Channel, noon); Sunday, race (TNT, 9:30 a.m.). Track: New Hampshire International Speedway (oval, 1.058 miles, 12 degrees banking in turns). Race distance: 317.4 miles, 300 laps. Last race: Tony Stewart eliminated himself from title contention with a miserable showing at Richmond International Raceway. The two-time and defending series champion started the weekend with a wreck that destroyed his primary Chevrolet minutes into the first practice and capped it with a lackluster 18th-place finish. Stewart plummeted from eighth to 11th in the standings. Kasey Kahne, who came into the race 11th in the standings, claimed the final Chase position after finishing third — behind winner Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch. Last year: The Chase for the championship began with Ryan Newman winning the Sylvania 300. Newman passed a dominant Stewart with two laps remaining for his first win of 2005. Fast facts: The drivers who qualified for the Chase had their point totals adjusted. Standings leader Matt Kenseth will start the Chase with 5,050 points, while the rest of the drivers will be separated in five-point increments. … Dale Earnhardt Jr. has five top-10 finishes in his last seven starts at New Hampshire after having only one in his first seven starts there. … Busch won the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at Loudon on July 16. Seven members of this year’s Chase finished in the top 10 in that race. … Stewart is the first champion not to defend his title in the Chase’s three-year history. Next race: Dover (Del.) 400, Sept. 24. On the Net: http://www.nascar.com

NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCKS

Sylvania 200

Site: Loudon, N.H. Schedule: Saturday, qualifying, 6:30 a.m.; race (Speed Channel, 11 a.m.). Track: New Hampshire International Speedway (oval, 1.058 miles, 12 degrees banking in turns). Race distance: 211.6 miles, 200 laps. Last race: Mark Martin, starting from the pole for the first time in a truck race at Bristol Motor Speedway, made just one pit stop and won the O’Reilly 200 on Aug. 23. Points leader Todd Bodine was second, followed by Ted Musgrave, Johnny Benson and David Starr. Last year: Rick Crawford fought off series points leaders Dennis Setzer and Ted Musgrave to win the Sylvania 200. The win was the fourth of 2005 for Crawford and his first since April 2004 at Martinsville. Fast facts: There have been no repeat winners in the race’s 10-year history. … Setzer leads all truck drivers with five top-five finishes at New Hampshire and his six top-10 showings ties him with Jack Sprague for the track record. … Terry Cook edged Setzer by .189 seconds to win the 2002 event. The nine races at Loudon that did not finish under caution have had an average margin of victory of 3.942 seconds. Next race: Las Vegas 350, Sept. 23. On the Net: http://www.nascar.com

Last event: Three-time Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher moved within 54 points of the series lead by earning his fifth U.S. Nationals victory at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis on Sept. 4. Schumacher topped Brandon Bernstein in the final round of the $2.6 million race. He joined other winners Robert Hight (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock), and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle). Anderson also won for the fifth time at Indy, including four straight. Last year: Schumacher won the Toyo Tires Nationals for a third straight season. Tony Pedregon ended an almost two-year winless streak with his victory over John Force in the Funny Car final, Anderson took Pro Stock and Angelle Sampey won Pro Stock Motorcycle. Fast facts: Force gave the Funny Car points lead back to Ron Capps at Indianapolis after just one race on top. Capps, who went to the semifinals, leads by 19 points. … Anderson’s win at Indianapolis was only his second of the season. He had eight last year en route to winning the Pro Stock championship. … Jack Beckman will replace Funny Car driver Whit Bazemore for the rest of the season, starting with this weekend’s event. NASCAR BUSCH

Last race: Kevin Harvick won for the sixth time this season and the third straight time at Richmond. He led five times for 154 laps and left with a 619-point lead over Carl Edwards and just seven races left on the schedule. Next race: Dover (Del.) 200, Sept. 23. On the Net: http://www.nascar.com

CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES

Last race: Sebastien Bourdais took a big step toward a third straight title, winning the Montreal Grand Prix on Aug. 28 while his closest pursuers in the championship failed to finish. The race had started the previous day in a steady rain and was halted after just six laps because of a downpour. A.J. Allmendinger took the lead from pole-winner Bourdais on the second turn Sunday when the Frenchman nearly spun off the slippery circuit. But the next day, Allmendinger was out after the 14th lap with a broken axle. Bourdais inherited the lead and went on to win. Next race: Road America, Sept. 24, Elkhart Lake, Wis. FORMULA ONE

Last race: Michael Schumacher will retire from Formula One after the season, announcing his decision moments after the seven-time world champion won the Italian Grand Prix. The 37-year-old Ferrari driver, who holds every major record in the sport, moved within two points of season leader Fernando Alonso. Three races remain — in China, Japan and Brazil — for Schumacher to gain an eighth title before he walks away. Next race: Chinese Grand Prix, Oct. 1, Shanghai. On the Net: http://www.formula1.com

INDY RACING LEAGUE

Last race: Dan Wheldon beat Target Chip Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon by 0.1897 seconds to win the PEAK Antifreeze Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway, but Sam Hornish Jr. was 0.2323 seconds behind and clinched the championship. On the Net: http://www.indycar.com
