Foley under analysis
San Diego Chargers linebacker Steve Foley’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he was shot by an off-duty police officer, and investigators say they want to find out whether steroids may have been a factor in his erratic behavior.
Prosecutors requested a sample of Foley’s blood Thursday from Sharp Memorial Hospital to test for performance-enhancing drugs, according to an affidavit for a search warrant.
Authorities have no evidence that the 31-year-old used steroids, but asked for the test because of his previous run-ins with police.
Robinson expects to play
Koren Robinson plans to play Sunday for the Packers, and believes it will be the start of something big in Green Bay.
A talented wide receiver and kick returner who was cut by the Minnesota Vikings after a drunken-driving charge last month, Robinson signed with the Packers earlier this week. The team began working him into the offense and special teams in practice Wednesday and Thursday.
Robinson made the Pro Bowl as a kick returner last year.
Jaguar pleads no contest
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Brian Williams has pleaded no contest to drunken-driving charges, opening himself up to possible sanctions from the NFL.
Chief Assistant State Attorney Jay Plotkin said that Williams entered a plea on his first court appearance. He was put on probation for six months and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
Those penalties are typical for a first-time offender, Plotkin said.
Williams was arrested early Sept. 2 after his 2006 Bentley swerved toward a police car and caused the officer to hit a curb, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report. He entered his plea later that day, then apologized to owner Wayne Weaver, coach Jack Del Rio and others.
