Angels 3, Royals 0: At Kansas City, Mo., Kelvim Escobar combined with two relievers on a five-hitter and Orlando Cabrera drove in three runs as Los Angeles blanked the Royals.

Tigers 6, White Sox 2: At Chicago, Curtis Granderson had three hits and Magglio Ordonez and Ivan Rodriguez homered to help Detroit maintain its slim lead in the Central with a victory over the defending World Series champion White Sox.

Blue Jays 3, Yankees 2: At Toronto, New York clinched its ninth consecutive East title despite losing to the Blue Jays. Benji Molina hit his 17th homer of the season for Toronto.

Devil Rays 4, Orioles 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Ty Wigginton helped Tampa Bay snap a season-high, nine-game losing streak, hitting a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning in the Devil Rays’ win over Baltimore.

Twins 8, Red Sox 2: At Boston, David Ortiz hit his 50th homer to match a Red Sox record, but Torii Hunter’s three-run shot in the eighth inning boosted Minnesota to a victory over Boston that allowed the Yankees to clinch their East title.

Athletics 4, Indians 3: At Oakland, Calif., Milton Bradley homered and singled in the tying run, and Frank Thomas hit a go-ahead double in the seventh inning to lead the Athletics past Cleveland. Esteban Loaiza picked up his 11th win.
