Spokane River Forum – Learn how to preserve the health of the Spokane River, 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place. Admission is free. Call (509) 459-5496 for reservations.

CANS Film Festival – Bring a donation of three cans of food per person to receive free movie admission and free small popcorn Thursday at the Regal Cinemas at the Northtown Mall and Valley Mall. Garden dedication – Join the official opening of the Northeast Community Garden, 10 a.m. Friday at Rypien Field, corner of Liberty and Lacy.

Fire Safety – Free clinics on fire safety in the home at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 at all Home Depot stores, plus a special presentation for children from 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 7. Locations are at 5617 E. Sprague, 9116 N. Newport Highway and 21701 E. Country Vista Drive. (509) 534-8588.

“Lights On” event – Specialists will inspect belts, hoses, fluid levels and wiper blades for free on all cars, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Pounder’s Jewelry parking lot, 3131 N. Division. Burnt out exterior light bulbs will be replaced for free. (509) 477-4727, ext. 114.
