Comparisons in conflict

The Spokesman-Review

In regard to Bill Jennings’ column (March 16) on the proposed Mt. Spokane ski expansion issue: How does an area (Mt. Spokane) that was described in the article as “untouched wilderness … a unique and rare environment in Spokane County” also get described as having … “an old rope tow shack … plus a snowmobile corridor, cell phone towers and a foundation and parking area of the original lodge that burned down in 1952?”

That simply does not wash. Is there anything more intrusive, irritating or noisy on the face of this earth than snowmobiles? Cell phone towers don’t exactly qualify as “untouched wilderness,” either. Thank God, the Washington Parks Commission appears to be seeing through that line of bull.

I do agree with the above “speaker” that, to date anyway, the Mt. Spokane concessionaire’s improvements to the whole area (if any) are not real obvious, at least to this relative newcomer.
