MONDAY

Tax forms are due April 17, and roughly 70 percent of U.S. taxpayers qualify to file them online for free with one of 19 qualified providers, approved by the IRS. Last year, 73 million people paid their taxes online, and the fastest growing category of filers is those who use home computers to complete returns, the IRS said.

TUESDAY

Local employers will be on hand to review resumes at a pair of upcoming career fairs in Spokane and Kootenai counties. The 12th annual Inland Northwest Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Spokane Convention Center. The Kootenai County fairgrounds will host the county job fair from noon to 6 p.m. on April 18.

WEDNESDAY

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe has become one of North Idaho’s top three employers, with 1,400 employees and a regional economic impact of $250 million, according to a study by a University of Idaho economist.

“The world’s biggest maker of slot machines, International Game Technology, announced a “significant” financial investment in Spokane Valley-based DigiDeal, which designs electronic poker games. As part of the deal, IGT has an option to purchase DigiDeal within five years.

THURSDAY

Empire Health Services is talking with Community Health Systems Inc., of Franklin, Tenn., the largest for-profit hospital system in the country, possibly about the sale of Deaconess Medical Center and Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

“A subsidiary of a $35 billion-a-year Japanese company has purchased Harbor Crest at Cedar Canyon Estates, a senior housing complex on the South Hill, and is negotiating to buy Northpointe Retirement Community. MBK Senior Living paid $21.3 million for Harbor Crest, Spokane County records show.

FRIDAY

A 17-condominium complex is planned for two historic buildings near Jefferson Street and the railroad viaduct in downtown Spokane. If plans hatched by Mauer Construction go through, the complex would also include a parking structure with a rooftop garden.
