Train hits, kills 2 young grizzlies
KALISPELL, Mont. – A train struck and killed two young male grizzly bears about a mile north of Whitefish, state wildlife officials said Tuesday.
The crash occurred early Monday along Whitefish Lake, said Tim Manley, a bear management specialist with the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
BNSF Railway officials reported the grizzly deaths to the department. The bears will be sent to a wildlife laboratory in Bozeman for examination. The 2-year-old, 185-pound grizzlies, probably siblings, appeared to have been in good condition, Manley said.
