Red Sox 6, Orioles 1: At Baltimore, Curt Schilling pitched seven innings of five-hit ball, David Ortiz drove in the tiebreaking run with a bloop single in the seventh, and Boston beat Baltimore. Alex Cora hit his first homer for the Red Sox.
Royals 4, Twins 3: At Minneapolis, David DeJesus and Mike Sweeney combined to send Minnesota to its first four-game losing streak since last June. DeJesus had three hits, including a home run, and Mike Sweeney also homered in Kansas City’s victory over the Twins.
Tigers 6, White Sox 2: At Chicago, Chad Durbin struck out a career-high nine in eight innings and Magglio Ordonez had three hits and three RBIs against his former team as Detroit defeated Chicago. Ivan Rodriguez also had three hits for the Tigers. John Danks allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings for Chicago.
Indians 8, Rangers 7 (11): At Cleveland, Jhonny Peralta singled home the winning run with one out in the 11th inning to give Cleveland a victory over Texas. Fernando Cabrera, the last of seven Cleveland pitchers, struck out five over two innings for the win. Indians starter C.C. Sabathia fanned eight over six innings, leaving with a 6-5 lead.
Angels 9, Devil Rays 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Gary Matthews Jr. and Garret Anderson hit two-run doubles, and Los Angeles took advantage of three Tampa Bay errors to score six unearned runs in a rout of the Devil Rays. John Lackey allowed a run and seven hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking two for Los Angeles.
Blue Jays at Yankees, ppd.: The game between Toronto and New York was rained out. No makeup date has been announced.
