Bjorklund, USA reach title game

University High graduate Angie Bjorklund scored seven points Saturday in the USA’s 69-46 victory over Spain that clinched a berth in today’s gold medal game at the U19 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Maya Moore led the Americans with 24 points.

The USA (8-0) will take on Sweden (6-2) in the title game.

Baseball

Kevin Dickey allowed no earned runs in six innings and Shawn Wayt had a pair of run-scoring singles as the Spokane RiverHawks (12-29) posted a 4-2 win over the Kitsap BlueJackets (24-17) in West Coast Collegiate Baseball League play at Bremerton, Wash.

Golf

Brad Rickel, Gonzaga University’s men’s and women’s coach during the 1998-99 season, is returning to the school as head women’s coach.

Rickel has been at Idaho since 1999 and coached the Vandals women to the Western Athletic Conference title last season.

Rickel and his family have made Spokane their home for the past year since his wife, Karen, was hired at Gonzaga as an assistant professor.
