CHESTER CREEK
This shortish par-3 layout, which is owned by PGA professional Tim McElhinny and his father, John, abuts Painted Hills Golf Course, a nine-hole regulation layout the McElhinny’s purchased from Mike Senske in March of 2006.
The holes range in length from 152 to 63 yards from the championship tees, but permission from the clubhouse is required to play them. There is also a set of regular tees and mats that slightly alter the yardage on each hole.
The course is flat and virtually treeless, and the greens are relatively small. The putting surfaces, however, are smooth and roll out nicely. They also hold well-struck short-iron shots as well as any in the region.
Like most par-3 courses, Chester Creek caters primarily to beginning golfers, but also offers more accomplished players an opportunity to work on their short game.
Most holes require half-shots that are often hard to execute, and seemingly benign rough around the greens can make some chip shots decidedly challenging.
Adult green fees are $7.50 for nine holes and $10 for 18. Rates for juniors 17 and under and seniors 60 and over are $5 for nine holes and $7.50 for 18.
