Braves 6, Diamondbacks 2: At Atlanta, Mark Teixeira drove in four runs with two homers and John Smoltz set a season high with 12 strikeouts in eight innings and the Braves beat Arizona.

Giants 6, Marlins 5: At Miami, Guillermo Rodriguez, Ryan Klesko and Rajai Davis all scored after a trio of Florida errors in the seventh inning, lifting San Francisco over the Marlins.

Mets 8, Nationals 2: At Washington, Carlos Beltran homered twice and drove in four runs and New York beat the Nationals. Orlando Hernandez allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings for the Mets.

Reds 7, Brewers 6: At Milwaukee, pinch-hitter Javier Valentin’s bases-loaded, two-run double in the eighth inning gave Cincinnati a victory over the Brewers. The Reds trailed 5-0 after three innings.

Padres 5, Astros 3: At San Diego, Greg Maddux held Houston to two hits in six innings, had two hits himself and fielded his position like the Gold Glover he is to help the Padres to a win over Houston.

Pirates 8, Phillies 4: At Pittsburgh, pinch-hitter Matt Kata’s three-run double highlighted the Pirates’ rally from a four-run deficit against the Phillies.

Dodgers 4, Rockies 3: At Los Angeles, Ramon Martinez hit a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning and finished with three RBIs to lead the Dodgers over Colorado.

Cardinals at Cubs ppd.: The game between St. Louis and Chicago was postponed due to a rain delay in the bottom of the third inning. A makeup date was not immediately announced.
