Tigers 2, Indians 1: At Detroit, Jair Jurrjens allowed one hit in his second major league start and the Tigers got consecutive homers from Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen to edge Cleveland.

Athletics 6, Blue Jays 4: At Toronto, Dan Haren matched his career high in wins, Dan Johnson had two hits and two RBIs and Oakland overcame three home runs to beat the Blue Jays. Haren gave up four runs and six hits over six innings.

Red Sox 8, Devil Rays 6: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo had two-run doubles during a five-run fourth to help Boston beat Tampa Bay. David Ortiz hit a rare (for him) triple for the Red Sox.

White Sox 5, Royals 2: At Chicago, Jim Thome hit his 493rd career homer leading the White Sox to a win over Kansas City. Danny Richar and Paul Konerko also homered for Chicago. Javier Vazquez pitched six-plus inning, allowing two runs – one earned – and five hits.

Orioles 6, Rangers 2: At Baltimore, Erik Bedard struck out 11 over seven innings to win his ninth straight decision, and the Orioles got home runs from Miguel Tejada and Aubrey Huff in a victory over Texas. Bedard increased his A.L.-leading strikeout total to 218.

Angels 18, Yankees 9: At Anaheim, Calif., Garret Anderson drove in a club-record 10 runs to lead Los Angeles over New York. Anderson hit a grand slam, a three-run homer, a two-run double and an RBI double. Alex Rodriguez added two home runs for the Yankees.
