Mount Union in semifinals

Greg Micheli threw three touchdown passes to Pierre Garcon and Nate Kmic ran for 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns Saturday to lead Mount Union over St. John Fisher 52-10 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs at Alliance, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders (13-0) extended their winning streak to 36 games. Mount Union is seeking its fourth straight national title and 11th in 16 years, and is 229-10-1 overall since 1990 – including 55-9 in the playoffs.

St. John Fisher (11-2) scored its only touchdown on a 34-yard pass from Rob Kramer to Corey Jackson in the fourth quarter.

Bethel 27, Central 14: At Pella, Iowa, the Royals (12-1) pounded out 303 yards rushing to beat the Dutch (12-1) in frigid weather and advance to the semifinals.

The game was delayed by 90 minutes because of an ice storm that was hammering the state. Both teams had to compete against freezing rain, sleet and gusty winds.

Mary Hardin-Baylor 27, Wesley 10: At Dover, Del., Jarvis Thrasher ran for 138 yards and Quincy Daniels added 79, including a 30-yard touchdown, helping the Crusaders (12-1) defeat the Wolverines (11-2).

Wisconsin-Whitewater 47, Wabash 7: At Whitewater, Wis., Brady Pittz and Justin Beaver ran for a combined 301 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Warhawks (12-1) to a victory over the Little Giants (11-2) during an icy Midwestern snow storm.

Division II

Northwest Missouri St. 26, Chadron St. 13: At Chadron, Neb., Xavier Omon ran for a school-record 309 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Bearcats (11-1) past the turnover-plagued Eagles (12-1).

It was the second straight year Northwest Missouri State beat Chadron State in the quarterfinals.

California, Pa. 58, Shepherd 38: At California, Pa., Windell Brown ran for three touchdowns and Daine Williams added two more on the ground, leading the Vulcans (13-0) over the Rams (10-2).

California amassed 535 yards in total offense, including 311 on the ground, while holding Shepherd to only 34 yards rushing.

Valdosta State 37, North Alabama 23: At Valdosta, Ga., Sherard Reynolds and Jamaal Clark each had a punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, helping the Blazers (11-1) rally past the Lions (10-2).

Valdosta State trailed 23-16 with just more than 11 minutes left but scored the last 21 points.
