Highlanders finish strongly, defeat Titans
Aaron Dunn scored a game-high 26 points and the Shadle Park boys used a strong second-half effort to knock off University 66-57 in a Greater Spokane League game Tuesday night at Spokane Falls Community College.
Dunn scored 18 second-half points, including 10 in the third quarter, as the Highlanders outscored the Titans 37-22 after trailing by six at the half.
Robby Douglas added 14 points and Zack Humphrey and Anthony Brown tossed in eight points apiece for Shadle (2-0).
The Highlanders were 16 of 24 from the free-throw line while University was 3 of 6.
Mason Johnson tallied a team-high 21 points to pace the Titans (1-1).
Elsewhere in the GSL, Dylan Harris scored 16 points, including five 3-pointers, and Nick Rijon added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead North Central to a 69-65 win over visiting Mead. David Butler added 11 points for the Indians (2-1), who led by five at the half. Brendan Ingebritsen scored a game-high 31 points on 9-of-19 shooting to guide the Panthers (1-1). Both teams shot well from the free-throw line. Mead converted 19 of its 25 foul shots while NC was 13 of 19. … Jared Karstetter and Shawn Stockton scored 14 points apiece and Ferris used a strong second-half effort to defeat visiting Mt. Spokane 58-44. Erick Cheadle finished with 10 points for the Saxons (2-0), who outscored the Wildcats 34-17 in the second half after trailing by three at halftime. Karstetter led Ferris in rebounding with nine. Ryan Selland paced Mt. Spokane (1-1) with 14 points. The Saxons were solid from the free-throw line, making 18 of their 23 attempts. … William Davis scored a game-high 18 points and Luke Clift added 12 as Central Valley routed host East Valley 62-39. The Bears (1-2) outscored the Knights 15-5 in the opening quarter and led 33-17 at the half. Danny Marshall paced EV (0-2) with 17 points.

Callie Bergstrom scored 19 points and made a free throw with 2 seconds left to break a tie and give Mt. Spokane a 50-49 win at Ferris. Katie Karisch added 14 points for the Wildcats (2-1), who outscored the Saxons 21-16 in the fourth quarter. Liz Boyden had a game-high 26 points and 11 rebounds for Ferris (0-3), which committed 10 more turnovers than Mt. Spokane.
In other league games, Kelsey Matthews scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Central Valley used a big third-quarter run to knock off host East Valley 53-34. The Bears outscored the Knights 16-5 in the third and led by 18 heading into the fourth. Ashley Hinseth tossed in 10 points and Justine Bowman, Brittany Catron and Lindsey Gigler added seven points apiece for CV (3-0). Jenni White had a team-high eight points for EV (0-2). … Lexie Pettersen scored a game-high 14 points, including nine in the second half, as Shadle Park defeated University 38-29 at Spokane Falls Community College. Amanda Carlton added eight points for the Highlanders (1-1), who outscored the Titans 18-9 in the second half. The teams were tied at 20 at the half. Riki Schiermeister had a team-high eight points for U-Hi (1-2).
Mary Blevins scored 12 points and Jeneva Anderson added 10 to lead Lewis and Clark to a 64-44 victory over Gonzaga Prep at LC. Sarah Kliewer added nine points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Tigers (3-0), who built a 30-15 halftime lead.
