Area Roundup : Elliott breaks record in GU win

Senior Michelle Elliott made a school-record nine 3-pointers and finished with 31 points to lead the Gonzaga women’s basketball team to a 75-63 non-conference victory over Sacramento State Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.

Elliott, who made six shots from beyond the arc in the second half, broke the 14-year-old Bulldog single-game record for 3-pointers made held by Ivy Safranski. Safranski made eight 3-pointers in 1994.

Heather Bowman added 28 points and eight rebounds for GU, which outscored the Hornets 43-30 in the second half.

GU improved to 5-3 on the season while Sacramento State fell to 1-6.

“Laiken Dollente led four players in double figures with 17 points and Portland defeated Eastern Washington 85-58 in a non-conference game at Chiles Center in Portland.

Kyla Evans led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points.

EWU fell to 2-7 overall while Portland improved to 7-3.

“Kelsey Kahle scored 32 points and the Portland State Vikings (8-1) kept the Idaho Vandals winless with an 81-54 non-conference victory at Memorial Gym.

Lindsey Koppen led Idaho (0-9) with 14 points.

“Tiffany Corigliano (Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls) scored 18 points as Whitworth defeated UC Santa Cruz at the Nick-N-Willy’s Winter Classic in Tacoma.

Natalie Orrell and Liz Horiatis added 10 points apiece for the Pirates.

Whitworth improved to 4-2 on the season while the Banana Slugs fell to 4-6.

“Ashlee Michelson hit two free throws with 3 seconds left to give CC of Spokane (6-3) a 69-67 win over the CCS alumni at Spokane Falls Community College.

Kelsey Stillar led the Sasquatch with 16 points.

Men’s basketball

Eric Beal had 21 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead CC Spokane to a 82-70 non-conference win over Highline in Seattle.

Robert Lippman added 14 points for the Sasquatch, who improved to 7-1 on the season.

“David Johnson scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead North Idaho to a 78-62 win over Mt. Hood at the Salt Lake CC Tournament in Salt Lake City.

Humberto Perez tossed in 11 points and Kerry Williams added 10 for the Cardinals (10-0), who built a 41-29 halftime lead.

“Jon Young scored 13 points and Bob Johnson added 12 as the Whitworth alumni defeated Whitworth 74-70 at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

David Riley scored 20 points, Colin Willemsen chipped in 18 and Ryan Symes added 16 to lead the Pirates.

Wrestling

North Idaho dominated Southwestern Oregon 40-3 in Coeur d’Alene.

Jordan Anderson (149 pounds), Ben Lecoultre (184) and Brett Fredericksen (197) all had pins for the Cardinals.
