Average Zags fan left out

The Spokesman-Review

The average Zags fan has been Scrooged by the city fathers, the Gonzaga Fathers, and all the powers that be concerning the Zags, their basketball center and television appearances. Before the McCarthey center was built Spokane already had an arena that would hold 10,000 fans.

Those in charge should have made Gonzaga a deal they couldn’t refuse. Instead, Gonzaga made a deal with the devil, in perpetuity, that would permit only a total of 6,000 students and the same season-ticket holders, to see the team play every home game every year.

Then they tell us that the television deal with ESPNU was made by the commissioner of the West Coast Conference with the knowledge Spokane doesn’t get ESPNU. Sounds like payback for the Zags winning every year.

If Mayor Hession had the foresight to run on a platform of bringing the Zags back to TV, he might still be mayor. The average Zags fan can’t see them in person or on television. We listen on the radio and read the newspaper articles, but it might just be a giant hoax. The average Zags fan can’t say he has actually seen a Zag.
