Packers clinch division
The Green Bay Packers are going back to the playoffs.
And maybe they’re bringing a running game with them.
Ryan Grant, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Giants just before the season and took over as the starter last month, rushed for a career-high 156 yards and a touchdown to lead the Packers to a 38-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders as Green Bay clinched the NFC North on Sunday in Green Bay, Wis.
Will Blackmon returned a punt 57 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and recovered a muffed punt by Raiders returner Tim Dwight in the end zone late in the third quarter.
Brett Favre had a relatively quiet game after easing his way back into practice this week, but still completed 15 of 23 passes for 266 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Cowboys 28, Lions 27: At Detroit, Tony Romo and Jason Witten put mistakes behind them well enough to connect on a game-winning touchdown that gave Dallas a win over the Lions and the NFC East title.
Romo threw a 16-yard pass to Witten with 18 seconds left, lifting Dallas past a Detroit team that has lost five straight.
Bills 38, Dolphins 17: At Orchard Park, N.Y., rookie Trent Edwards’ four touchdown passes, two each to Lee Evans and Robert Royal, led Buffalo over the woeful Dolphins, dropping Miami to 0-13.
Buffalo won for the sixth time in eight games.
Colts 44, Ravens 20: At Baltimore, Peyton Manning threw four touchdown passes, including the 300th of his career, and Indianapolis built a 30-point lead in the second quarter en route to a victory over the Ravens.
The win, combined with Tennessee’s loss to San Diego earlier in the day, assured the Colts a sixth consecutive trip to the postseason.
Chargers 23, Titans 17 (OT): At Nashville, Tenn., LaDainian Tomlinson scored on a 16-yard run with 7:29 left in overtime, and San Diego rallied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter for its third straight victory and seventh in nine games.
Tennessee had a chance to run out the clock but gave the ball back to San Diego with 2:24 left in regulation and went three-and-out in their only overtime possession.
Texans 28, Buccaneers 14: At Houston, Sage Rosenfels threw for three touchdowns to lead the Texans and has won both games he’s started in place of the injured Matt Schaub.
Rosenfels lost two fumbles, but Tampa Bay was only able to convert one into points.
Jaguars 37, Panthers 6: At Jacksonville, Fla., Fred Taylor ran for 132 yards and a touchdown and Jacksonville harassed Vinny Testaverde, stuffed DeShaun Foster and locked down Steve Smith – the defense’s most complete game since consecutive wins at Denver and Kansas City early in the season.
Vikings 27, 49ers 7: At San Francisco, 311-pound defensive lineman Kevin Williams returned an interception 18 yards for a touchdown on the game’s first play, and Chester Taylor had an 84-yard scoring run as Minnesota defeated the 49ers.
Robert Ferguson caught a 19-yard TD pass from Tarvaris Jackson as the Vikings moved into the sixth spot in the NFC playoff picture with their fourth straight win.
Browns 24, Jets 18: At East Rutherford, N.J., Derek Anderson threw two touchdown passes and Joe Jurevicius recovered two late onside kicks as Cleveland strengthened its playoff chances by beating the Jets.
Jamal Lewis had a touchdown catch and added a 31-yard TD run with 1:22 left, and the Browns moved a game in front of Tennessee and Buffalo in the wild-card race.
Giants 16, Eagles 13: At Philadelphia, Eli Manning threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress, Lawrence Tynes made three short field goals and the Giants moved closer to a wild-card playoff spot by beating the Eagles.
David Akers hit the right upright on a 57-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds after Donovan McNabb drove the Eagles 50 yards in the final minute.
Broncos 41, Chiefs 7: At Denver, Jay Cutler threw a career-best four touchdown passes, Selvin Young rushed for a career-high 156 yards on 17 carries and Elvis Dumervil had three sacks and forced a fumble that led to a touchdown to lead the Broncos past Kansas City.
Cutler completed 20 of 27 passes for 244 yards and no interceptions.
Bengals 19, Rams 10: At Cincinnati, Rudi Johnson ran 1 yard for a touchdown, Shayne Graham kicked four field goals on a nasty day, and the Bengals took advantage of Rams’ novice quarterback Brock Berlin to get the win over St. Louis.
