18-year-old charged in S. Carolina stabbing
Clifton Hunter Epps, 18, was charged Monday in Columbia, S.C., with assault and battery with intent to kill following the stabbing of South Carolina defensive lineman Jordin Lindsey last weekend.
Lindsey sustained a 4-inch laceration to the left side of his neck and spent a night in the hospital before he was released, authorities said. Lindsey and Epps were arguing when Epps used a broken bottle to cut the victim, police said.
•Jimbo Fisher will succeed Bobby Bowden as Florida State’s next football coach – someday.
President T.K. Wetherell designated offensive coordinator Fisher as “head coach-in waiting,” but skipped out of a somewhat unusual news conference in Tallahassee, Fla., without answering questions about the contracts that are not yet finalized. Bowden agreed to be back for a 33rd season next year.

Gagne deal finalized
Former N.L. Cy Young Award winner Eric Gagne and the Milwaukee Brewers finalized a $10 million, one-year contract. Gagne can earn $1 million more in performance bonuses.
•Pitcher Randy Wolf and the San Diego Padres finalized a one-year deal that will top out at $9 million if Wolf reaches all his incentives.
•The players’ association filed a grievance to overturn the 15-day suspension given to Kansas City Royals outfielder Jose Guillen for violating baseball’s drug program.
•Oakland Athletics minor league catcher Raul Padron was suspended for the first 50 games of next season after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
•Paul Lo Duca and the Washington Nationals agreed to a one-year contract pending a physical.

Rutgers caps Cal
Kia Vaughn had 13 points and 15 rebounds to help sixth-ranked Rutgers (7-2) beat the No. 11 California Golden Bears (8-2) 56-51 in college women’s basketball in Piscataway, N.J. Matee Ajavon scored 15 to lead Rutgers.
•BALCO founder Victor Conte is ready to meet with the World Anti-Doping Agency chairman to “provide detailed information involving a history of rampant drug use at the elite level of sport.”
•The International Olympic Committee said it would delay a decision on the reallocation of Marion Jones’ five medals from the 2000 Sydney Games.
The IOC executive board is expected to formally strip Jones of her medals Wednesday.
•Anthony Mundine knocked out Jose Alberto Clavero of Argentina in the fourth round in Sydney, Australia, to retain his World Boxing Association super middleweight title.
