NHL : Flames win on road again
Dion Phaneuf scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period Friday night to lead the Calgary Flames past the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in Raleigh, N.C.
Jarome Iginla, Kristian Huselius and Dustin Boyd also scored for the Flames, who improved to 4-0 on their six-game road trip. Adrian Aucoin added two assists, while Miikka Kiprusoff finished with 33 saves.
Sabres 5, Capitals 3: At Washington, Tim Connolly backhanded a rebound past goalie Olie Kolzig with 3:42 left in the third period, lifting Buffalo to victory over the Capitals.
Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, and Brooks Laich scored the goals for Washington.
Maple Leafs 4, Thrashers 0: At Atlanta, Vesa Toskala continued his hot streak with 24 stops, posting his second shutout of the season to lead Toronto to victory over the Thrashers.
Wild 5, Ducks 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Brian Rolston had a goal and two assists, and Minnesota snapped out of a scoring slump with a victory over the Ducks.
Blues acquire McDonald
Andy McDonald, a key member of the Anaheim Ducks’ Stanley Cup championship team last season, was traded to the St. Louis Blues for Doug Weight, Michal Birner and a seventh-round pick in next year’s NHL entry draft.
