Google toolbar offers a helper

The Spokesman-Review

Google has a beta version of its new Internet Explorer toolbar.

The Google Toolbar adds a search box right inside the menu bar at the top of Internet Explorer. Many other Web search sites offer similar toolbars, and in general we recommend not overdoing the toolbars, as they clutter and complicate one’s overall browsing experience.

But we want to note the improvements in this beta version, found at www.toolbar.google.com.

If you type in a Web address and you’ve entered it incorrectly, the toolbar prompts you for the correct URL. It works even when you type in something on your address bar; say you enter the URL “newyorktimess.com.” You would normally find an Error 404 saying the site is not available or the address is wrong.

Google’s new bar comes up with the result: “Did you mean newyorktimes.com”?

The beta toolbar has a number of other new features. Anyone out there not happy with those added features, let us know by sending e-mail to TXT@spokesman.com. We’ll share them next time.
