Kids in trouble
Two of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid’s sons are under investigation – one for suspicion of pointing a gun at a motorist, the other for a car accident just hours later, after which police said he admitted using heroin.
Britt Reid was questioned by police after a man matching his description in a sport-utility vehicle registered to Andy Reid and his wife brandished a weapon at another driver during an argument Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Authorities served a search warrant later Tuesday at the home the 21-year-old shares with his parents in suburban Philadelphia. Police said they seized a shotgun and a handgun, along with containers of white powder and residue from the vehicle.
No charges have been filed:
Andy Reid was on vacation and not at home at the time of the search. He returned home Wednesday.
On the same day as the alleged road-rage incident, Britt Reid’s older brother, Garrett, was found with drug paraphernalia after his sport-utility vehicle collided with another vehicle in nearby Plymouth Township, police said.
Rivera could be on Cowboys’ list
Ron Rivera’s ready when the day arrives. Being a head coach in the NFL is the logical next step. When and where? He’s not really sure, even though his name has surfaced for yet another vacancy, this time in Dallas.
There is also speculation that the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator might be offered the same position in Dallas if the head coaching spot goes to Norv Turner.
49ers name Manusky coordinator
The San Francisco 49ers hired San Diego linebackers coach Greg Manusky as their defensive coordinator. Manusky, who played 12 seasons in the NFL, spent the last five years on the Chargers’ staff, where he worked with one of the league’s top defenses.
Giants to play Dolphins in London
The Miami Dolphins will host the New York Giants in a regular-season game in London in September or October this year.
A person familiar with the NFL’s decision told The Associated Press that the Dolphins will move a home game overseas. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement will not be made until after commissioner Roger Goodell’s Super Bowl news conference today.
Player accuses Belichick
Former New England Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson said coach Bill Belichick subjected him to hard hits in practice while he was recovering from a concussion – against the advice of the team’s top trainer.
Johnson, who helped the Patriots win three Super Bowl titles before retiring two years ago, told The New York Times that a collision with another player during that 2002 practice led to another concussion. And, after sustaining additional concussions over the next three seasons, he now forgets people’s names, misses appointments and suffers from depression and an addiction to amphetamines.
“There’s something wrong with me,” the 34-year-old Johnson told the Times in a story posted on its Web site Thursday night. “There’s something wrong with my brain. And I know when it started.”
Belichick told the Boston Globe he got no cue from Johnson in practice that day that he was hesitant about participating in the full-contact drill.
