Bullpups top Wildcats
Max Manix scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds, guiding Gonzaga Prep to a 47-45 comeback win over Mt. Spokane in a Greater Spokane League boys game Friday night at G-Prep.
Manix scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter to help the Bullpups claw back after falling behind by six with 4 minutes remaining.
Ryan Selland tallied a team-high 16 points, including two 3-pointers, for the Wildcats (7-9), who missed a shot with 4 seconds remaining that would have tied the game.
Taylor Reed scored eight points and Chris Madunich and Jordon Poynor each added six for Mt. Spokane.
Travis Long tossed in 11 points and Beau Azadganian chipped in seven for G-Prep (12-7), who outscored the Wildcats 18-12 in the fourth quarter to erase a six-point fourth-quarter deficit.
Girls
Gonzaga Prep 54, Mt. Spokane 46: Tara Cronin scored a game-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds and six assists as the Bullpups (12-7) topped the visiting Wildcats (2-14).
Senior forward Elise Kuhar-Pitters added 10 points for G-Prep, who exploded after halftime, outscoring Mt. Spokane 16-5 in the third quarter to take a nine-point lead into the fourth.
Cronin made two 3-pointers and converted on all six of her free-throw attempts for the Wildcats, who were 16 of 20 from the line as a team. The Bullpups were just 14 of 26 from the line.
Mt. Spokane was led by Korina Baker, who scored 15 points.
Mariah Knopp tossed in eight points and Christie Norman and Jenna Sayman added five points apiece for G-Prep.
Senior Justin Parry scored the first five points of the game on Senior Night for the Bullpups.
