The Slice

The Slice The Spokesman-Review

Everyone knows parents resent having their performance as moms and dads criticized by nonparents.

That’s understandable.

But that street runs both ways.

Married couples who do not have children seldom enjoy being psychoanalyzed by couples who do. That, too, is understandable.

Of course, this all means many parents and nonparents have something fundamental in common: They love to judge people who lead lives different from their own. It’s one of Spokane’s favorite sports.

Then there are those rare men and women in our midst who do not do that. They regard people as individuals, not as grab bags of stereotypes.

I always hope these folks wind up being the ones who have lots of children.
