Warriors no match for Nuggets

Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith scored 28 points apiece and the Denver Nuggets beat the Golden State Warriors 123-111 Monday night in Denver.

Anthony sat out much of the fourth quarter because of a bruised right thigh.

Warriors guard Stephen Jackson was late for the game after attending the trial in Indianapolis of a man who hit him with a car during a fight outside a strip club last fall. The man was convicted Monday in a ruling by a judge.

Jackson finished with nine points. Al Harrington led the Warriors with 24 points, and Kelenna Azubuike added 23.

Jazz 102, Hawks 76: At Salt Lake City, Mehmet Okur had 19 points and six rebounds and Utah beat Atlanta for its fifth win in a row.

Atlanta had won five straight road games.

Pistons 92, Clippers 74: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Chris Webber had 19 points and nine rebounds and Detroit beat Los Angeles for its seventh straight victory.

The Clippers were missing Elton Brand, who was a late scratch with back spasms.

Riley nears return

Pat Riley will resume coaching the Miami Heat following the All-Star break, an official within the NBA said.

Riley is expected to announce his return at a news conference Wednesday. His first game back would be Feb. 21 at Houston.

Riley left the team Jan. 3 because of ongoing hip and knee problems, which both required surgery.

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Randy Foye was cited in Minneapolis for disorderly conduct after police found him in an SUV at a gas station while two of his family members fought outside. … Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton will be out at least through the All-Star break because of a sprained right ankle.
