T-Birds edge Chiefs
SEATTLE – After Spokane tallied the first four goals of the game, Seattle rattled off the final five, including the winner in overtime, for a 5-4 Western Hockey League win in front of 4,291 at KeyArena Friday night.
Michael Grabner got the Chiefs (31-22-3-3, 68 points) going with a pair of goals in the first period. The first came on the power play at 3:36, with assists going to Sean Zimmerman and Stephane Lenoski. Spokane went up 2-0 at 14:59 on Grabner’s 30th of the season.
Grabner completed the hat trick with his second power-play goal of the game at 2:36 of the second. Judd Blackwater’s power-play goal 1:30 later put Spokane ahead 4-0.
Seattle’s Thomas Hickey cut the deficit in half with a pair of goals, the second coming 30 seconds into the final period. After a Bud Holloway power-play goal at 2:42, Prab Rai tied it for the Thunderbirds (26-19-2-11, 65) with 8 seconds remaining.
Seattle’s Aaron Gagnon completed the comeback with his 31st goal of the season 3:09 into the extra session.
