The Slice

A cousin I had not talked to in ages phoned me not long ago.

We had a fine, friendly conversation. I’ve always liked him. But I keep thinking about something he said.

In recalling occasions when we would all get together during our childhoods, he mentioned that he always thought of my family as this dynamic group leading a vibrant, exciting lifestyle.

I suggested to him that his picture of us was somewhat idealized.

Maybe that’s not unusual in extended families, though. Perhaps it is common for people, especially kids, to imagine that other families are somehow more happening than their own.

Do you have a Cousin Dave out there? It might be interesting to hear what he thought about your family way back when.

Give him a call.
