Oilers give Murray 600th win

Mike Comrie and Dean McAmmond scored in the shootout to lead Ottawa to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night in Ottawa, giving Senators coach Bryan Murray his 600th NHL victory.

Murray is the fifth coach to reach the mark, joining Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour, Dick Irvin and Pat Quinn, and he did it in 1,199 games.

He earned his first win on Nov. 18, 1981, with Washington and holds the distinction of being the longest-serving coach without a Stanley Cup.

Devils 2, Rangers 1: At East Rutherford, N.J., Zach Parise scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period, and Martin Brodeur made 35 saves as New Jersey beat New York.

Minnesota 2, Dallas 1 (SO): At St. Paul, Minn., Niklas Backstrom stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout and Mikko Koivu scored on a backhander to the top right corner to lead Minnesota over Dallas.

Blues 5, Blue Jackets 4 (SO): At St. Louis, Lee Stempniak and Doug Weight scored and Manny Legace stopped both Columbus shootout attempts to lift the Blues over Columbus.

Sabres 6, Flyers 3: At Buffalo, N.Y., Daniel Briere had a goal and two assists, Chris Drury, Derek Roy and Jason Pominville each added a goal and an assist, and Buffalo had three power-play goals for the second consecutive game in a victory over Philadelphia.

Lightning 3, Panthers 2 (SO): At Tampa, Fla., Martin St. Louis scored the tying goal and tallied one in the shootout, helping Tampa Bay beat Florida.

Bruins 3, Maple Leafs 0: At Toronto, Tim Thomas made 43 saves for his third shutout of the season, and Jason York scored his first NHL goal in three years, leading Boston over the Maple Leafs.

Canadiens 5, Capitals 3: At Montreal, Chris Higgins and Michael Ryder each scored two goals as the Canadiens beat Washington.

Thrashers 3, Hurricanes 1: At Raleigh, N.C., Ilya Kovalchuk, Marian Hossa and Eric Boulton scored third-period goals and Atlanta beat Carolina.

Canucks 3, Ducks 2 (OT): At Anaheim, Calif., Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist – scoring the game-winner on the power play 2:19 into overtime – and Vancouver slipped past Anaheim.

Avalanche 4, Flames 3: At Denver, Paul Stastny had two goals and an assist, and Peter Budaj stopped 33 shots — including 16 in the third period — as Colorado beat Calgary.

Avs defenseman Jordan Leopold will miss about four weeks after tests revealed a fractured wrist, suffered in a game against Calgary last week.
