Wildcats get much-needed win
TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State wanted a victory. Arizona had to have one.
The Wildcats’ desperation turned out to be the difference in a pulsating 61-58 victory over their in-state rival Sunday night.
The Wildcats had been swept at home by USC and UCLA last weekend and had lost 7 of their last 11 games, raising the possibility that their 22-year string of NCAA tournament appearances may end.
Chase Budinger scored 23 points and Marcus Williams added 19 for the Wildcats (18-9, 9-7 Pac-10), who won despite a season-low point total.
Christian Polk scored 18 points, Serge Angounou had 14 and Jeff Pendergraph 13 for the Sun Devils (7-20, 1-15).
