Wildcats teams on the road

First round of the 3A regional basketball tournament is tonight with the Mt. Spokane boys and girls both on the road in loser-out games.

For the boys, the Greater Spokane League’s No. 2 seeded Wildcats (9-12) are at Kennewick (12-11). The winner advances against Columbia Basin League No. 1 Southridge (17-5) in the first game of double-elimination play Thursday night.

Also Thursday at 6, GSL 3A district champion North Central (6-16) plays host to either Eastmont (8-16) or West Valley-Yakima (13-9).

In the girls tournament, Mt. Spokane’s girls (6-16), also seeded No. 2, are at Kamiakin (16-6) tonight. The winner will play at CBL No. 1 Kennewick (11-12) on Thursday.

GSL district champion East Valley (8-13) entertains either Hanford (12-10) or WV-Yakima (11-12) on Thursday. All games involving GSL schools both days are at 6 p.m.

Tournaments continue Friday and Saturday at Richland High School with two teams in each advancing to state March 7-10 in Seattle.

•Top seeds to the State 2A tournament will be determined Wednesday at Eastern Washington University.

Unbeaten Pullman (21-0) plays Clarkston (16-5) at 6:30 p.m. for the girls title followed by West Valley (18-3) against Clarkston (11-11) for the boys title.

In loser-out games, Cheney girls (13-9) play West Valley (10-12) at 5:45 at Medical Lake, and Medical Lake boys (10-12) play Pullman (11-10) at 8 at Cheney.

The tourney concludes Friday with the losers of the championship games playing winners of the consolation games for the second state berths.
