Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Tyler Hansbrough scored 17 points and Brandan Wright added 16 for North Carolina on Sunday as the Tar Heels defeated Dayton 81-51 in a non-conference men’s college basketball game at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Wayne Ellington scored 15 points for the Tar Heels (12-1), who had 11 players score to win for the ninth straight time.

Marcus Johnson and Brian Roberts each scored 14 points to lead the Flyers (10-3), who offered little challenge against one of the nation’s top teams for the second straight outing. Dayton lost its last game by 30 points at No. 10 Pittsburgh last week.

The Tar Heels led 34-18 at halftime and 3-pointers from Reyshawn Terry and Wes Miller made it 54-27 with about 13 minutes left.

(4) Wisconsin 64, Georgia 54: Alando Tucker scored 29 points to lead Wisconsin to its 10th straight victory as the Badgers (14-1) defeated the Bulldogs (8-4) at Athens, Ga.

Tucker’s 3-pointer with 2:13 to play gave the Badgers a 56-51 lead and stifled Georgia’s comeback hopes.

Wisconsin’s start is its best since the 1913-14 team went 15-0 for the season.

Takais Brown led Georgia with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Marcus Landry of the Badgers made two free throws to make it 60-54, and then he iced the game with a three-point play in the final minute.

DeMarcus Nelson added 13 points and Greg Paulus had 12 for the Blue Devils, who won their eighth straight overall and extended the nation’s longest non-conference home winning streak to 50 games.

Carlton Spencer scored 11 points for the Spartans, who lost their 12th straight against ranked teams.

(25) Clemson 67, Georgia St. 57: Trevor Booker had 15 points and 12 rebounds and the unbeaten Tigers (14-0) continued their best start in 20 years, defeating the Panthers (4-7) at Clemson, S.C.

The Tigers are three wins shy of the school’s all-time best start when the 1986-87 team featuring Horace Grant opened 17-0.

Rashad Chase led Georgia State with 16 points. Lance Perique, the Panthers’ leading scorer with a 15.8 average, was held to seven points.
