NBA: Iverson booted in Nuggets’ loss to Sixers

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Allen Iverson took plenty of shots at his former team, and not all of them during the game.

His 30 points weren’t enough, however, as Kyle Korver scored 26 points to help the visiting Philadelphia 76ers beat the Denver Nuggets 108-97 Tuesday night in Iverson’s first game against his former team.

Iverson was 10 of 24 before getting tossed for his second technical with 1:44 remaining.

Iverson’s best shots came before tip-off when he ripped the team that traded him to Denver over the holidays, repeating his contention that he should have had more say in the Sixers’ style.

After the morning shootaround, Iverson said he felt a player of his stature and tenure should have been listened to when he criticized the Sixers’ style of play last month, a condemnation that led to his departure from Philadelphia after 10 tumultuous seasons.

“When you’re losing basketball games, 12 of 14, 18 of 20 basketball games, you should listen to somebody because something obviously isn’t working,” he said.

Iverson said he was still bitter with the way Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks and team president Billy King handled his complaints that led to his departure from Philadelphia.

Suns 97, Bulls 96: At Chicago, Leandro Barbosa hit a 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining and Phoenix rallied to a victory over Chicago.

It was a bitter ending for the Bulls, who got a career-high 41 points from Ben Gordon and led by as many as 16 in the first half.

Chicago, which had won 16 of 19 and had a chance to move into the Eastern Conference lead, took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Cavaliers 82, Spurs 78: At Cleveland, LeBron James scored 19 points, Larry Hughes added 18 and the Cavaliers’ defense smothered and frustrated San Antonio during a win over the Spurs.

Kings 112, Knicks 100: At Sacramento, Calif., Ron Artest scored a career-high 39 points with exceptional outside shooting, and the Kings never trailed in their win over New York.

Magic 91, Clippers 86: At Orlando, Fla., Jameer Nelson made four free throws in the final 28 seconds and scored a season-high 29 points in the Magic’s win over Los Angeles.

Warriors 97, Hornets 89: At Oklahoma, City, Baron Davis and Matt Barnes scored 29 points apiece, leading Golden State past New Orleans. Barnes added 11 rebounds and five steals. Barnes added 11 rebounds and five steals.
