Arron Afflalo scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half and made all nine of his free throws, leading No. 3 UCLA past California 62-46 on Thursday night in Berkeley, Calif.

Josh Shipp added 12 points and threw a pretty behind-the-back bounce pass to Afflalo for a late basket, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute grabbed 11 rebounds in the Bruins’ fourth straight win since a 68-66 loss at Oregon on Jan. 6 – the team’s lone defeat so far. The Bruins are alone in first place in the Pac-10.

Afflalo shot 7 for 13 and didn’t score for the first time until making two free throws with 4:39 to go in the opening half.

Theo Robertson had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists and Ryan Anderson added 13 points and six boards but the Golden Bears disappointed the sellout crowd of 11,877 at Haas Pavilion, where many students packed their section about an hour before tipoff.

The Bruins, coming off a sweep of the Arizona schools, finished 50 percent from the floor after a slow start and held Cal leader Ayinde Ubaka to no points and two assists on 0-for-8 shooting.

Stanford 65, (25) USC 50: At Stanford, Calif., Brook Lopez blocked a school-record 12 shots to go along with 18 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Cardinal defeat the Trojans.

Lopez dominated the inside for the Cardinal and overwhelmed the Trojans, scoring six points and blocking three shots during a 12-0 run that put the Cardinal up 22 midway through the second half.

The triple-double was the first since at least 1985 for the Cardinal. School records further back weren’t immediately available.

After USC answered with a 13-0 run to cut it to nine, Lopez hit a jumper to end a scoreless stretch of 7:10 for the Cardinal. He blocked his 11th shot and then scored on an alley-oop from Anthony Goods with about 2 minutes left to thwart USC’s final comeback attempt.

Lopez’s 12 blocks – nearly as many as his total of 13 coming into the game – were as many as any team ever had against the Trojans, matching the 11 blocks for Wyoming in 1983. Along with three blocks by twin brother Robin and four for Lawrence Hill, Stanford set a school record with 19 blocks.
