Take a tip from Gonzaga
You rarely see an empty seat in the student section at Gonzaga men’s basketball games.
The popularity of the team makes it easy to fill the 1,200-seat student section, but just in case there are safeguards to protect against empty seats. It sounds like Kansas State could use the same policy.
Wildcats coach Bob Huggins called out the no-shows after the team’s win over Baylor in which the 4,600-seat student section was sold out, but about 2,500 seats were empty.
“They want to come in and do this Huggieville thing, then fill it,” Huggins said after the game. “I don’t want my name associated with something that’s half right.”
At Gonzaga, if you don’t use your ticket you get an e-mail reminder. If you do it again, you get a warning. The third time, you lose the chance to get a ticket for the next two games.
GU assistant ticket manager Alison Keck said the ticket office has never had a student get to the third level.

Unser charged with DUI
Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Jr., 44, was charged with driving under the influence after leaving the scene of a freeway crash.
He was arrested after he was identified as the driver of a car that sideswiped another on the Las Vegas Beltway on Thursday, Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Honea said.
Unser’s vehicle had little damage, but the other car crashed into a cement center median. The driver reported no injuries at the scene.
Honea said Unser failed several field sobriety tests before being taken into custody. He was charged with driving under the influence, misdemeanor hit and run, failure to render aid and failure to report an accident.
