Nauditt headed for Motocross Nationals

Matt Crownover Staff writer

Brad Nauditt’s dream of becoming one of the top Motocross racers in the country is quickly becoming a reality.

The Mt. Spokane junior took fourth place in the A-pro and 4-stroke classes at the Loretta Lynn Regional Qualifier June 21 in Washougal, Wash., earning him a spot in the 26th annual Air Nautiques/AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships July 30-Aug. 4 at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

Only four riders per class qualify from the Northwest Region, which includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho and northern California.

Nauditt, who turned professional last year and has been racing in half of the Canadian Pro Motocross Light Division circuit, is excited.

“I’ve been dreaming of an opportunity like this since I was 12,” he said.

Nauditt, who rides a Honda bike, hopes to finish in the top 10 at the national championships.

The AMA National Championships is a stepping stone to Motocross stardom. Most of America’s top professional riders, including Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana and James Stewart have won AMA Amateur National Championships at Loretta Lynn’s.

Brad’s father Peter is also enthusiastic about his son’s accomplishments.

“I’m excited for him,” he said. “I think any father would be proud of his son in this situation. It takes a lot of devotion.”

Sponsors such as Allsport Honda, Devol Engineering, DNG Designs, Royal Business, Crower Power and Fox Racing help pay his way to the races.

•Spokane’s Chessey Thomas, 15, shot an 80 and earned sixth place after winning a playoff at the Sectional Qualifying tournament June 25 at the Tacoma Golf & Country Club in Lakewood, Wash.

Her effort earned her a spot in the United States Golf Association’s 2007 U.S. Girls’ Championships, held July 23-28 at the Tacoma Golf & Country Club.
