Bears sweep Indians

The Spokesman-Review

YAKIMA – It was an ugly rally to say the least.

The Yakima Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth without the benefit of a hit en route to an 8-6 come-from-behind victory over the Spokane Indians in Northwest League action at Yakima County Stadium

The Bears (8-13) completed a three-game sweep, while handing Spokane (9-12) its fourth straight defeat. Yakima closed to within a game of the first-place Indians.

Disaster struck reliever Hector Nelo (0-1) and Spokane in the sixth. Two walks, a balk, an error, two wild pitches and a sacrifice fly led to three Bears runs and erased a 6-4 Indians lead.

Spokane led 2-1, fell behind 4-2 and then rallied to take a 6-4 lead with a four-run fifth inning.

Andres James singled to open the fifth and scored on a one-out single by Kenneth Smith. Renny Osuna singled to put runners at the corners and Jonathan Greene followed with a three-run home run. It was Greene’s fourth homer of the season.

Spokane travels to Pasco for a three-game series against Tri-City after an off day.
