Phillies 8, Pirates 1 (7): At Philadelphia, Pat Burrell homered and had three RBIs, Jamie Moyer allowed one run in seven innings and the Phillies beat Pittsburgh.
Padres 9, Astros 4: At Houston, Milton Bradley homered and Brian Giles had a season-high three RBIs and Jake Peavy won for the first time since June 19 as San Diego topped the Astros.
Brewers 12, Cardinals 2: At St. Louis, Claudio Vargas worked eight innings and was backed by a 19-hit attack in Milwaukee’s victory over the Cardinals.
Reds 5, Cubs 4: At Cincinnati, Edwin Encarnacion’s ninth-inning single drove in Norris Hopper from second base to give the Reds a win over Chicago.
Diamondbacks 8, Braves 7 (11): At Phoenix, Tony Clark homered to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning and Arizona beat Atlanta after squandering a seven-run lead.
Giants 12, Marlins 10: At San Francisco, in his first at-bat Giants slugger Barry Bond hit home run 754 as the Giants went on to beat Florida.
Dodgers at Rockies, ppd.: At Denver, the scheduled game between Los Angeles and Colorado was postponed by rain. The game will be made up in September.
