Need to open that folder in a hurry? Here’s how

The Spokesman-Review

How Do I create a quick shortcut to frequently used folders?

One fairly quick way to access an often-used folder is to create a desktop folder. If you use Windows, you just right-click anywhere on the desktop, choose new, then shortcut. Browse to the folder you want on your PC, then name the shortcut. But what if you don’t want to clutter the desktop with those shortcuts?

In that case, you can create a shortcut that you reach through the Run command in Windows.

Go to Start, then Run, then put in a “.” and hit enter. That will take you to your root folder on your PC. Now say you want to get to your My Pictures folder easily. From that root folder, click File, New, and choose Shortcut. Then you go through a browse to find the My Pictures folder (which is under My Documents unless you’ve revised your file system). Name the shortcut something simple, like mypix. Then close.

From that point on, you can go to the run command, enter “mypix” and hit enter. Up pops your My Pictures folder.
