Both teams led by as many as seven points in the second quarter. Jackson scored 13 in the quarter after going scoreless in the first quarter.

Shock 75, Sparks 73: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Plenette Pierson scored 21 points, including a three-point play with 26.3 seconds left that gave Detroit its first lead of the game, and the Shock held off Los Angeles.

After a ball fake gave her an open lane to the basket, Pierson drove and laid the ball in while slamming into Jessica Moore – who was called for a foul as the shot dropped. Pierson then sank the free throw.

Mercury 80, Fever 75: At Phoenix, Tangela Smith had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Mercury to a victory over Indiana.

Lynx 78, Monarchs 73: At Sacramento, Calif., Seimone Augustus scored a career-high 39 points to lift Minnesota over the Monarchs.

Frustrating the Sacramento defense, Augustus made 16 of 25 shots.

But Augustus’ biggest basket was a long jumper that ended an 8-0 Sacramento run and put the Lynx ahead 75-69 with 1:46 remaining.
