Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: I read your column regarding the office administrator’s comments about her patients filling out procedure forms. I was happy to read that someone is concerned about the difficulties some people display in understanding the language on some of the applications and forms that they are required to fill out and is willing to help them.

I am a speech pathologist in a public school system and work mostly with middle- and high-school students. They work on reading and comprehending many of the questions on various applications and forms they might have to fill out in the future. I also work on their spelling and handwriting (fine motor skills), which apply to these necessary forms. Thank you for your wonderful column. I do use it in therapy for reading material for my students at times. – Sharon H. Gray, via e-mail
