Book Notes :Brush up on your writing skills

Several writing classes are among the courses being offered this summer through the Seniors Program at the Community Colleges of Spokane.

Registration has begun for the following classes for those 55 and older:

“Writers’ Workshop with Lisa Conger, Mondays, July 9-Aug. 27 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Sinto Senior Activity Center, 1124 W. Sinto; and Thursdays, July 12-Aug. 30, Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main, cost: $30.

“Poetry Workshop with Lisa Conger, for beginning and advanced poets, Mondays, July 9-Aug. 27 from 1-3:30 p.m. at Corbin Senior Activity Center, 827 W. Cleveland ($35); and for beginners, Thursdays, July 12-Aug. 16 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Medical Lake ($24).

“Migratory Words (creative writing and character development) with Lisa Conger and Anne Selcoe, Fridays, July 13-Aug. 31, noon-4 p.m., Corbin Senior Activity Center ($53).

Extra innings

Spokane author Beth Bollinger will appear at two signings for her book “Until the End of the Ninth,” a novel based on the true story of the tragic 1946 Spokane Indians baseball team bus crash, on Saturday – the eve of the anniversary of the accident.

Bollinger will sign books Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Valley Hastings, 15312 E. Sprague (509-924-0667), and during the Indians game that night at Avista Stadium, 602 N. Havana (509-535-2922), beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Unless otherwise noted, all events are free and open to the public.
