Wednesday’s interleague results
Diamondbacks 7, Devil Rays 4: At Phoenix, one day after it matched the greatest comeback in franchise history, Arizona built a big lead and hung on. Chad Tracy and Eric Byrnes each hit a three-run homer, and the Diamondbacks defeated Tampa Bay.
Marlins 5, White Sox 4: At Chicago, pinch-hitter Jason Wood connected for a three-run homer off closer Bobby Jenks in the eighth inning, and Florida sent staggering Chicago to its 19th loss in 24 games with a victory.
Athletics 5, Reds 3: At Oakland, Calif., the Reds’ shaky bullpen blew it again. Nick Swisher drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the seventh inning, then Eric Chavez followed with a sacrifice fly in Oakland’s victory over Cincinnati.
Indians 10, Phillies 6: At Cleveland, Casey Blake put the Indians ahead with a two-run single in an eight-run sixth inning and Cleveland beat Philadelphia.
Tigers 8, Nationals 4: At Washington, Detroit wrapped up the three-game series by pounding the Washington pitching staff yet again to give Jeremy Bonderman his eighth straight victory.
Blue Jays 12, Dodgers 1: At Toronto, Frank Thomas hit his 497th career home run and Roy Halladay won his third consecutive start for the Blue Jays. Gregg Zaun and Matt Stairs hit back-to-back homers in the third for Toronto.
Twins 6, Mets 2: At New York, Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer and Scott Baker pitched five effective innings and Minnesota defeated New York. Joe Mauer also drove in two runs for Minnesota, which won two of three in its first series at Shea Stadium since 2002.
Red Sox 11, Braves 0: At Atlanta, Julian Tavarez pitched seven scoreless innings for Boston, which homered three times in the first two innings. J.D. Drew homered on the fourth pitch of the game from Buddy Carlyle (1-2). The Red Sox had five homers in all, and 10 of their 15 hits were for extra bases.
Rockies 6, Yankees 1: At Denver, Jeff Francis struck out a career-high nine in seven innings, and Matt Holliday homered and drove in three runs to lead Colorado over New York. By taking the first two games against the Yankees, the Rockies won a club-record sixth straight series and improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine series, the best stretch in franchise history.
Rangers 7, Cubs 3: At Arlington, Texas, Sammy Sosa became the fifth member of the 600-homer club, hitting a solo shot in the fifth inning of Texas’ victory over Chicago, his former team.
Orioles 7, Padres 1: At San Diego, rookie Jeremy Guthrie shut down the Padres on four hits over eight innings and Baltimore beat San Diego, snapping a nine-game losing streak.
Angels 8, Astros 4: At Anaheim, Calif., Vladimir Guerrero’s three-run homer was the only hit in Los Angeles’ six-run seventh inning, and the Angels rallied past Houston.
Cardinals 7, Royals 6 (14): At St. Louis, Ryan Ludwick homered off Jorge de la Rosa leading off the 14th inning, giving St. Louis the victory over Kansas City.
