WNBA : Mystics bring down the Sky

DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 22 points and the Washington Mystics defeated the Chicago Sky 99-86 on Saturday night in Chicago.

Alana Beard scored 17 points, Nikki Teasley had 15 and Nakia Sanford added 13 for the Mystics, who have won three of five after starting the season 0-8. Monique Currie, who was traded by the Sky to Washington on May 24 for Chasity Melvin, added 14 for the Mystics.

Candice Dupree scored 26, and Melvin added 14 points and nine rebounds for Chicago. Armintie Price had 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Sky.

Silver Stars 71, Sun 58: At Uncasville, Conn., guard Becky Hammon scored 20 points to lead San Antonio past Connecticut.

Forward Sophia Young added 17 points and eight rebounds for San Antonio. Douglas and Lindsay Whalen led the Sun with 15 points each.

Monarchs 85, Shock 75: At Sacramento, Calif., Ticha Penicheiro scored eight points in the final 2:07, and the Monarchs held off Detroit for a victory in a rematch of last season’s finals.

Scholanda Robinson scored a season-high 13 points and Rebekkah Brunson added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Monarchs

Taurasi receives suspension

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi received a two-game suspension from the WNBA for inappropriate conduct toward game officials.

Taurasi was punished for her actions at the end of Phoenix’s 87-84 loss to the Detroit Shock on Friday night.
