Royals 4, Brewers 3 (11): At Milwaukee, Joey Gathright’s bases-loaded walk in the 11th inning off Chris Spurling lifted Kansas City to a victory over the Brewers. David Riske pitched the 10th to get the win and Jimmy Gobble worked a perfect 11th for his first save.
Twins 7, Marlins 4: At Miami, Johan Santana pitched six innings and drove in a run with his first career triple to help Minnesota beat Florida. Santana struck out eight and allowed only one earned run and Joe Mauer hit two homers for the Twins.
Tigers 5, Braves 0: At Atlanta, Andrew Miller threw six sharp innings and Detroit beat the slumping Braves for their seventh straight win – all on the road against National League teams.
Red Sox 4, Padres 2: At San Diego, Josh Beckett became baseball’s first 11-game winner this season and Boston worked over Jake Peavy in a victory over the Padres. Jason Varitek tripled and homered for the Red Sox, who took two of three.
Angels 4, Pirates 3 (10): At Anaheim, Calif., Erick Aybar singled home the winning run in the 10th inning and Jose Molina drove in two runs, leading Los Angeles to a victory and a three-game sweep of Pittsburgh.
Giants 7, Yankees 2: At San Francisco, Barry Bonds scored twice on sacrifice flies, Noah Lowry pitched two-hit ball into the sixth inning and the Giants defeated New York. San Francisco took two of three from the Yankees after snapping an eight-game losing streak Saturday.
Diamondbacks 8, Orioles 3: At Phoenix, Stephen Drew and Chad Tracy homered, Eric Byrnes drove in two runs and Arizona defeated Baltimore for its seventh victory in nine games. The win puts the Diamondbacks alone atop the N.L. West for the first time since April 30.
Blue Jays 5, Rockies 0: At Toronto, Dustin McGowan’s bid for the second no-hitter in Blue Jays history ended when Jeff Baker singled leading off the ninth inning and Toronto beat Colorado to complete a three-game sweep.
Nationals 3, Indians 1: At Washington, Jason Simontacchi shut down Cleveland for six innings and Jesus Flores drove in two runs, leading the Nationals to a victory. Ronnie Belliard went 3 for 3 for Washington.
Devil Rays 9, Dodgers 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Edwin Jackson beat his old team for his first win in almost two years, leading Tampa Bay to the win over Los Angeles. Ty Wigginton homered and played a key role in a two-run sixth when the Devil Rays went up 4-2.
Mets 10, Athletics 2: At New York, the Mets sailed to a victory behind John Maine to complete their first series sweep at home since last August. Maine pitched seven solid innings and Jose Valentin had three hits for New York.
Cubs 3, White Sox 0: At U.S. Cellular Field, Alfonso Soriano threw out a runner at the plate and also homered for the third straight game as the Cubs blanked the White Sox.
Astros 12, Rangers 9 (10): At Arlington, Texas, Craig Biggio’s 2,996th career hit was a tiebreaking RBI double in the 10th inning as Houston got a wild victory against Texas to avoid a series sweep. Biggio finished 3 for 5 with a walk.
Associated Press
