Thursday’s N.L. results
Marlins 9, Pirates 7: At Miami, Scott Olsen struck out his first five batters and finished with 10, one shy of his career high, as Florida defeated Pittsburgh. Mike Jacobs had three of Florida’s 14 hits, and Matt Treanor hit a two-run homer, his first since June 20 last year, off Baltimore’s Daniel Cabrera.
Dodgers 9, Diamondbacks 5: At Phoenix, Russell Martin spoiled Randy Johnson’s return from a sore back with a home run and finished with three hits, and Los Angeles took three of four from Arizona. Randy Wolf allowed three runs in six-plus innings and Jeff Kent drove in three runs for the Dodgers.
Phillies 8, Reds 7 (10): At Philadelphia, Jimmy Rollins had four hits, including a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, and the Phillies beat Cincinnati. Chase Utley hit a pair of two-run homers for Philadelphia, which pulled within three games of East-leading New York.
Astros 8, Rockies 5 (11): At Houston, Craig Biggio joined the 3,000 career hits club, and Carlos Lee’s grand slam in the 11th gave the Astros the win over Colorado. Lee’s shot to left field off Brian Fuentes (0-3) came on the first pitch. Biggio singled in the 11th, tying a career high with his fifth hit. The loss extends Colorado’s season-high losing streak to seven games.
Cardinals at Mets, ppd.: St. Louis’ game at New York was postponed by rain. Because the rainout came in the Cardinals’ last scheduled game in New York this season, the teams will have to make up the game on a mutually agreeable open date later in the year.
