Hints from Heloise
Dear Heloise: To do a quick check on my credit-card statement for my gasoline purchases, I came up with a simple solution:
Whenever I fill up, I always end the amount of the purchase with the number 7. The pump stops when the tank is full, and I carefully press the trigger to move the last cent to 7 (e.g., $15.67). When my credit-card statement arrives, I check the gasoline purchases, and all the amounts should end in 7s. Those that do not, I need to call and check on. – Roel I., Katy, Texas
Dear Heloise: My husband has an allergy to adhesive bandages. When he had foot surgery, we were unable to use tape on his skin, so I put the bandage on, then put a knee-high stocking on over his bandage to hold it in place. It was lightweight, stretchy and worked well. Our doctor was very impressed and said he would pass this hint on to other patients. – Pat B., via e-mail
