Kudos to prep seniors
It was refreshing in the last few weeks to read the nice articles about the contribution of seniors to the various local high school basketball teams. I am referring to the ones on Ferris boys, Mead girls and Liberty girls, to name just a few.
It is true upperclassmen are such an integral part of any high school program. Whether they are the stars or role players, they are vital to a program. Not only is their presence of value on the court, but they are also a reflection that the program is in good hands. Keeping seniors involved also helps the support of the student body; realistically students like to support their class.
I know of one GSL program (a former powerhouse) that had no seniors and only two juniors in its basketball program. I guess you could understand it if they had a star youth list of a Casto, Redmon or Morrison, but this team won only a handful of games.
Sorry, but it does not make sense. There is no way this should happen in a school with nearly 2,000 students. One could understand this could easily happen at a B school or maybe even a 1A or 2A, but not in a large school.
Sorry, something has to be wrong with that, but fortunately it seems that is rare. I am glad in your sports articles you have made special note of the seniors.
And congrats to all those programs that are able to keep upperclassmen involved. Coaches and administrators are the ones who really deserve to be commended.
