State 2B a bad idea
Changing the State B format was a big mistake. Why did we need to change something that was such a huge tradition for so many years? Just look at the changes and see if they were meant to better the tournament:
“No TV coverage for the championships Saturday night.
“No “Special State B section” in the Wednesday Spokesman-Review that highlighted teams, who were favored, team records, what players to watch, stats of each team, human interest stories about many of the teams, brackets, predictions of winners or how each would place, last year’s champion, etc.
“Poor radio reception of the games.
“Poor attendance for games.
“Only 50-60 teams in each of the 1B and 2B split.
“Few business signs welcoming State B visitors and players.
What a shame for Spokane to lose such a wonderful tradition and the best tournament of all the WIAA tournaments. Bring back the old B tournament.
