Huckleberries goes unplugged – except for the plug

D.f. Oliveria The Spokesman-Review

Six months ago, I couldn’t tell the difference between Wi-Fi and hi-fi – and now I’m looking for electrical outlets at coffee shops, to save the battery on my Mac Book. Translation: I received a Macintosh laptop computer and assorted gadgets from the S-R with marching orders to blog from area businesses. For a shakedown cruise, Mac and I visited Java on Sherman three times last week. I relished compiling Huckleberries Online in the busy coffee shop, with owner Sam Wallin and his busy crew greeting customers and bustling around. ‘Twas better than doing the same in my corner office on Northwest Boulevard – alone. In the opening round of Huckleberries Goes Wi-Fi, I had the pleasure of meeting and/or chatting with some fine Sherman Avenue/community residents: Gary Hoffman; retired dentist Clarence Johnson and his wife, Patricia (who also has roots in the Azores Islands); George Goetzman; Steve Widmyer; fellow blogger Nic Casey/Rants, Raves and Random Thoughts; and former S-R colleague Susan Drumheller, now of the Idaho Conservation League, who was escorting some enviro bigwigs around downtown. Drummer, as her friends affectionately know her, popped into Java on Sherman long enough to report on a bumpersnicker she’d seen on a maroon Subaru with Kootenai plates a few blocks away: “Gut Deer.” It took awhile to sink in. Then, I appreciated the cleverness of the bumpersnicker. My adventure in wi-fidelity is sinking in, too. I will visit Doma and Coeur d’Alene City Library this week. Say hi if you see me.
