Surgery required for Karl

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Boise State player Coby Karl, the son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl, will undergo surgery to treat cancer next month.

The school announced Monday that Karl would have cancerous lymph nodes removed April 2. It will be the second surgery in 13 months for Karl, who had his thyroid removed last March after being diagnosed with papillary carcinoma, a form of treatable cancer. He also underwent chemotherapy to try to kill off any remaining cancer cells shortly after his surgery.

“It is with great excitement and peace of mind that I plan to return to continue my education and be a member of the Stanford team next season,” Lopez said in a statement released by the school.
